What are Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers are a popular non-surgical facial enhancement treatment designed to restore volume, lift, and contour your cheeks and other areas of the face. This minimally invasive procedure can rejuvenate your appearance, giving you a more youthful and refreshed look.

They contain hyaluronic acid, a substance naturally found in our bodies, particularly in connective tissues and skin. Hyaluronic acid is known for its ability to hold moisture, providing hydration and volume to the skin. Some dermal fillers may also contain collagen-stimulating ingredients like poly-L-lactic acid or CaHA (calcium hydroxylapatite), which encourage the body’s own collagen production over time.

What Is Dermal Filler Used For?

Over time, our faces can lose their youthful fullness, leading to a sagging or deflated appearance. This is often caused by the gradual shifting of facial fats and the loss of collagen, which gives the face its firm, plump look.

As we get older, the support structure of the face weakens, leading to changes in the distribution of facial fat around the cheeks, mouth, eyes, forehead, and temples over time.

As with Cheek Fillers, we utilise Dermal filler to counter the natural aging processes across several potential areas of concern in the face:

Dermal fillers are often used both in conjunction with and to compliment Anti-wrinkle Injections. Dermal fillers can address many of the areas where anti-wrinkle injections are used, but are more suitable for deeper lines that would be difficult to treat using anti-wrinkle injections alone.

There are certain types of folds that are too deep for any type of filler or anti-wrinkle treatment. If this is the case, your dermatologist will discuss this with you during your initial consultation.

What Does the Procedure Involve?

Consultation

Initially, a thorough consultation is conducted to understand your aesthetic goals and assess your facial structure. It is also important to understand whether your facial structure is suitable and whether the desired result is achievable.   

Treatment

Topical anaesthetic may be applied to minimise any discomfort during the procedure. The filler, typically composed of hyaluronic acid or collagen-stimulating agents, is then carefully injected into the desired area using fine needles.

After filling and massaging the injected areas, you will see instant plumpness, contour, and structure added to your face. The procedure will take around 20 minutes from start to finish and most patients feel minimal to no pain. There is no major downtime or significant swelling or bruising, enabling you to continue as normal post-procedure.

Post-Treatment Care

You can resume your everyday activities after the treatment. Your dermatologist will discuss a comprehensive skincare strategy with you to help achieve longer-lasting results.
